The Pasco County Council PTA/PTSA and the district have scheduled two town hall meetings to provide an update and get community input on school safety. West Pasco is at River Ridge Middle/High School’s cafeteria for Wednesday, May 2, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. East Pasco is at Wiregrass Ranch High School cafeteria for Monday, May 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be a presentation about current safety efforts, what the new law requires, and districts plans for complying with the law. A question and answer period will follow the presentation. We are inviting our law enforcement and community mental health partners to join us. Legislators and other elected officials also will be encouraged to attend.

Employee of the week.

Name Barbara Davis

What is your role at Mittye P. Locke?
I am the school counselor at Mittye P. Locke.

What do you love about your job?
I love the variety of tasks and roles that I have as the school counselor. I have the opportunity to teach lessons about personal safety in grades Kg-5 and to work with students individually and sometimes in small groups. I also coordinate 504 plans and help with the 5th grade middle school articulation process along with other activities. I enjoy working with students of all ages and getting to know their parents.

Who or what inspires you?
At school, I am inspired by the student who overcomes their personal challenges or handicaps to do their best (whatever their personal goal may be). I am grateful to work with parents who want the best for their child.

Tell us something unique that people may not know about you.
I've been a counselor for 25 years. When I started out, the counselors who were school based were called "guidance counselors". In the last few years, our title was changed to "school counselor". I may be one of the few counselors who don't mind being referred to as the "guidance counselor".

What is your role at Mittye P. Locke- First grade teachers

What do you love about your job-
Alexis, Shelly, Jen- The kids and the never ending laughs that come with working with kids this age.
Christina - I love the people I work with. As a new teacher they have given me support, encouragement, and friendship. I also love the students I get to teach. They have welcomed me and made me excited to come to work each day.
Lisa- I love to teach! I love it for so many reasons. One of the reasons I love teaching is I think it is amazing to see how a student can improve so much within the year. And not only do the students improve in academics, but also, behaviorally and socially. Another equally important reason I love teaching is because I feel it is a very important profession and I feel I am making a difference in my students lives.

Who or what inspires you-
Alexis, Shelly, Jen – The children
Christina- I am always inspired by people who make changes later in life. As we get older we can tend to think we can't learn or do new things and I am always motivated by those who never let fear get in the way of trying new things.
Lisa- I am inspired by the idea of making a difference in this world. I love listening to positive messages and like to read positive quotes. I love nature and the beauty of the forest. I am inspired by the idea of living a balanced life.

Tell us something unique that people may not know about you.
Alexis, Shelly, Jen- We would open our own doggie daycare.
Christina- I signed up to do my first mud run this month and hope it becomes a new hobby for myself and my husband.
Lisa- I grew up in Miami and I know a lot of Spanish and understand the different Hispanic cultures. I love to eat guava pasties and Cuban sandwiches!

We just moved to Pasco County in March and my daughter was very nervous about going to a new school. But Mrs Carmack immediately made her feel welcome! She absolutely loves her class!

Mrs. Card was like a second mom to my daughter for 2 years. Could not have asked for a better kindergarten and 1st grade teacher.
